Karachi: Veteran tennis player Hameed-ul-Haq was elbowed out in the very first round of Subh-e-Nau National Tennis Championship on Tuesday after conceding straight-set defeat from another seasoned player Heera Ashiq in men’s singles event at PTF Complex Tennis Complex in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, Yasir Khan faced tough resistance at the hands of young Aman Atique in his first round match when he lost first set and was 4-6 down in second one. But he eventually showed his class and recovered to pull a victory after a thrilling encounter.
Pakistan’s number one tennis player Aqeel Khan brushed aside his opponent Ejaz Khan in one-sided contest and moved into the second round. Other players who managed to win their matches on Tuesday include Raja Shahid, Arham Atique, Usman Rafique, Mohammad Abid and Malik Hamza.
Aqib Umer, Ilham Khan and Hamza bin Rehan won their respective first round matches of Boys U-18 category and qualified for second round. M. Talha Khan won his first round match against Umar Maqsood.
