LG polls crucial for Karachi future: Baloch

KARACHI: Coming local government polls are crucial for the future of Karachi, said Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) general secretary Liaquat Baloch.

He said that the LB elections in Karachi have their own significance and they are more crucial than LG polls in any other part of the country.

Addressing a party convention in Gulshan-e-Hadeed area, the JI leader highlighted that Karachi has been deprived of peace and development for a long time. He charged that MQM and PPP enjoyed powers for decades but did nothing for Karachi. He said the citizens should use their power to vote intelligently so that the future of their city would not go in the hands of same exploitative forces.

However, JI Karachi chapter Hafiz Naeem has hoped that the JI would sweep the elections despite the flawed voter lists.

Talking to senior columnists and anchor persons at a local hotel on Tuesday, he said that provision of electricity, water, health, education and public transport would be their priorities.

The JI leader was of the view that free and fair LG elections are essential for bringing durable peace and sustainable development in the city.

To a question, he said that the Election Commission of Pakistan is not working properly. He said it would be tantamount to backstabbing Karachiites, if army and Rangers are not deployed in and outside the polling booths.
