Karachi: Pakistan Boys 16 and Under tennis team will participate in the Junior Davis Cup (JDC) pre-qualifying round competition of Asia, scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka from February 29 to March 6, 2016.
Pakistan was the runner-up at last year’s event held in Malaysia.
The trials to select a three-member team will be held at S. Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex in Islamabad from December 27 to 30. Six top players, as per then current rankings and age eligibility, along with one wild card each from Punjab, Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, will take part in the trials.
Players will be divided into two groups and two players from each group will be selected for the second phase where all selected four players will play round robin matches for selection of the three-member team. The player at fourth position after the final trials will be standby player.
Six players, namely Sahabzada Mohammad Ali, Nauman Aftab, Huzaifa Abdul Rehman, Shoaib Khan, Aqib Umer and Hamza Bin Rehan have been invited to report for the trials.
For wild card entries, all the three provincial associations are required to conduct regional trials for the age group eligible for the 2016 event and send the name of their best player latest by December 15 at PTF Complex.
Six players selected on the basis of their rankings will get economy class railway fare, daily allowances and accommodation at Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex. Meanwhile, wild card entries, only those who are out-of station players, will receive accommodation only, and will get other allowances if they qualify for second phase.
