1.1m children administered polio drops

KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said on Thursday that during four-day oral polio vaccination campaign in West, South and Malir districts of Karachi, almost 1.1 million children under five years have been administered polio drops, while in second phase from 11 September to 14 September, the remaining 1.1 million children in districts East, Korangi and Central will be administered polio drops.

This he informed in a statement issued here on Thursday. He said that for rest of Sindh, the campaign would be launched from 14 September to 17 September and approximately 8.17 million children, including 2.2 million children of Karachi, would be approached.

Dahar said: “For the campaign, 3400 teams have been deployed while for adequate security arrangements, the services of 2300 policemen and 200 rangers personnel have been hired. Besides this, Provincial Minister for Health presided over a meting of all MSes and DHOs of Ghotki, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Sukkur here at Obauro and directed them to improve condition in government hospitals and warned if they did not take reformative measures, action would be taken against them. He also assured them to resolve their issues at earliest so that they might work in a better environment.

Dahar also inaugurated two hospital centres here in Obauro and told mediamen that free treatment, medicines and tests were being provided to the hepatitis patients and government was providing them better facilities of treatment to the patients.
