101 profiteers fined for overcharging

KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 101 shopkeepers were charged with Rs111,000 fine for selling commodities above government rates.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. Those areas were Garden, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Orangi, Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi, Airport, Model Colony and Bin Qasim.

In the crackdown, 63 milkmen, 19 shopkeepers of general commodities, 17 chicken sellers, one fruit seller and one vegetable seller have been fined for selling essential items at excessive prices. Two persons were sent to jail for continuous violation.
