10pc govt schools closed in Larkana, admits minister

LARKANA: Senior Sindh Minister for Education & Information Departments, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, has given 15 days ultimatum to all the divisional education officers of Larkana division to open the closed schools & resolve fundamental problems of working schools.

He said only in Larkana division 10% schools are closed which is a large percentage. He was presiding over a high level meeting at Commissioner’s office here on Monday.

He said through NTS they have recruited 16000 to 17000 teachers within two years for which he claimed no influence has been entertained adding that these teachers have been appointed for those closed schools to open & start working. These teachers cannot be transferred on verbal orders and those officers will be taken to task who indulge in their transfer postings, Khuhro added.

He said Sindh Government is spending Rs:1.75 billion on text books annually which are printed through Sindh Text Book Board and these books are distributed in all government schools free of cost.

He said that there are 43000 primary schools in Sindh and the number of middle & high schools is short as compared to primary schools that is why children cannot get higher education adding that their government will increase the number of middle schools or upgrade primary schools.

He said NTS teachers has undertaken that they will not get themselves transferred for three years but if it is not implemented than it can only be termed irony & action will be taken.

Nisar Khuhro said that some officers & clerks are supporting ghost teachers and stern action will also be soon taken against their involvement because the teachers associations had also undertook that they will not support the absentee teachers.

Larkana Division Commissioner Ghulam Akbar Laghari told the meeting that in entire Larkana Division there are 5988 schools out of which 655 are closed and to apprehend ghost teachers a monitoring cell has also been established in his office.

He said that he himself is paying regular & surprise visits to see the working of schools and presence of teachers. Deputy Commissioner Javed Jagirani, Directors Primary Schools, Elementary, DEOs, TEOs and other officials were present.
