11 died, 17 injured in blast at Khyber Agency

Peshawar: At least eleven people including a child and president of Khyber Union of Journalists Khyber Agency Chapter Mehboob Shah Afridi were killed and whereas seventeen other injured when a suicide bomber hit Khassadar Force Check post near Kharkhano market in Wazir Dhand area of Jamrud on Tuesday.

Injured were shifted to Tehsil Headquarter hospital Jamrud and Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) where condition of ten injured is stated to be critical. The injured included a woman and a child whose condition is also critical.

Soon after the blast huge contingent of police and security personnel reached the location and surrounded the area to start rescue operation. Main Jamrud Road was closed for all kind of traffic till completion of operation. The blast caused huge loss to the various vehicles and shops near Kharkhano market, a famous shopping center for foreign goods in Peshawar.

A spokesperson at the Hayatabad Medical Complex said the hospital had received six bodies, including that of a child.

Bomb Disposal Unit said that 10 to 14 KG explosive was used in the explosion while the suicide attacker came on motorbike and exploded himself near the check post. The apparent target of the suicider was Khassadar force and line officer Nawab Shah who lost his life in the attack.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and PTI Chief Imran Khan have strongly condemned the blast and expressed deep sympathy with the victims’ families.

In his condolence message the Governor Sardar Mehtab has directed the Political Agent of Khyber Agency to immediately present the complete report of the blast . He also directed PA Khyber Agency take effective steps to arrest the perpetrators and facilitators involved in this heinous act..
