QUETTA: Promotion of research activities is very much important to compete developed countries.
These views were expressed by Balochistan Governor and chancellor University of Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai while addressing 11 th convocation of the institution here Thursday.
Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Malik Baloch was guest of Honour on the occasion.
11 th convocation was attended among others by Consul General of Afghanistan, Vice chancellor UoB Dr Javaid Iqbal, Pro VC Dr Mehrab Khan, Dean Faculties, Registrar. Members of University Senate and Syndicate, civil society, Vice chancellors of IT, Turbat, Loralai Universities, representatives, provincial ministers, heads of various public and private organizations, teachers of Universities.
Governor said UoB is important institution of the province which was established in 1970. He said he has been associated for selecting site for the university and with teaching for two years. He said it is day of honour for this institution because PhD, MPhil scholars and large number of girls were being conferred degrees today. He expressed hoped they would utilize their research and curricular activities for the country and the province. He said development of research activities is very much necessary so that developed countries could be contested.
Governor said that heavy responsibility rests on teachers and parents to provide best education to their girls from primary level because with educated people good governance and better human resources can be provided to the society. He said Federal government was according priority and importance to educational and other sectors in Baluchistan so that it could be put on road to progress.
He appreciated curricular activities of the University and assured his cooperation and patronage for its better future. He also announced rupees one million for its main library.
Balochistan Chief Minister in his address said that award of PhD, M Phil scholars degrees to large number of boys and girl students is matter of great importance for the University. He said this institution was progressing well. Provincial government has enforced education emergency to improve education at the Universities, quality education and primary level. He said 21 st century is century of education without which developed countries cannot be competed. He said merit would be revived and NIS would be accorded priority As far as Balochistan Public Service Commission is concerned he added it would also be improved through reorganization.
He urged girl and boy students to concentrate on their education, following discipline and increasing their capabilities according to modern demands. He announce d Rupees 0.1 million each to PhD, M Phil and Gold medallist students and one laptop each to all passed out students. He also assured his fullest cooperation with University.
Earlier Vice Chancellor Dr Javaid Iqbal highlighting curricular, research, development activities of University told that all the matters are carried out under an act. Syndicate meeting which was not held for last seven years was held. Academic council and Board of Advance meetings have been made according to schedule. He said for Master degree programme five thousand admission forms have been received and for M Phil, PhD 2200 forms. This shows confidence in t he institution. He said realizing shortage of teachers, posts of Assistant Professors and Lecturers have also been announced. Examinations and other systems would be linked with computerization. Sub campuses of the University are being set up at Khuzdar, Aghberg and Marriabad. He said Rupees 10 million fund has been created for research activities. Work for FM radio and construction work of five departments was in final stages of completion. Pharmacy Department has been elevated as faculty. He termed cooperation of provincial Government and HEC very important for the University.
Governor and Chief Minister conferred nearly 600 degrees of PhD to 24 scholars, 86 were given M Phil and 65 gold medallists.
