113 profiteers fined Rs 178500, one jailed

KARACHI: In a crackdown on profiteers, 113 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 178500 fine for selling commodities above government rates, while one other was jailed.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

In the crackdown, 57 milkmen, 10 shopkeepers of general commodities, 27 chicken sellers, five flour sellers, seven vegetable sellers and seven fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while one person was sent to jail for continuous violation of official rates.
