116 killed in police encounters this year: report

KARACHI: Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad division police from January 1 to February 18 in raids and encounters against criminals arrested 5428 accused and recovered arms from their possessions.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali was informed in a report from January 1 to date that 116 accused were killed in 464 police encounters, 330 accused were arrested read-handed during these encounters. In addition 175 criminal gangs busted. 15 Patharidars were arrested.

Those arrested included 2983 absconders, 450 proclaimed offenders, 11 extortionists, five kidnapers, 15 terrorists, three target killers, 1609 other accused and robbers, including seven dacoits with head money.

Police recovered one G3 rifle, three MP5, seven SMGs, 117 shotguns, 36 rifles, 5556 rounds, three suicide jackets, two bombs, one rocket launcher, 67 hand grenades, and two detonators from the accused.
