KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 131 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 143800 fine for selling commodities above government rates.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.
He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Saddar, Garden, SITE, Baldia, Orangi, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Model Colony, Bin Qasim and Korangi.
In the crackdown, 68 milkmen, 22 shopkeepers of general commodities, seven vegetable sellers, seven fruit sellers, 13 flour sellers and 14 chicken sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices.
