Karachi, 01 Oct (PPI): First ever Commander Karachi Inter collegiate Football tournament 2015 was won by Agha Khan college by 1 goal. The final match was held today at PNS KARSAZ sports ground. Minister for Education, information and Literacy Mr. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro was the Chief Guest on the occasion. On his arrival, he was received by Commander Karachi Vice Admiral Syed Arifullah Hussaini.

Two weeks long tournament commenced on 14th September 2015 in which 48 colleges participated from all over Karachi. After healthy competition, teams of Bahria College NORE I and Agha Khan College made it to the finals.

While addressing the ceremony, Mr. Khuhro appreciated the efforts made by Pakistan Navy for the promotion of healthy sports activities in the metropolis. The aim of the tournament was to provide healthy platform to the Educational institutions at Karachi and to promote the game of football both at national and international level.

SBTA reveals blood donation data report

KARACHI: Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA) administration on Thursday issued blood donation data report collected thorough the Sindh province to address concerns about the availability, safety and accessibility of blood for transfusion in order to bring improvement in transfusion process.

Secretary Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority Secretary Dr Zahid Hassan Ansari while talking to said blood data collection had been started on the advice of German Government’s Safe Blood Transfusion Project, Government of Pakistan and World Health Organization (WHO) across the province to address concerns about the availability, safety and accessibility of blood for transfusion.

He said the objective of this activity is to collect and analyse data from all districts on blood and blood product safety as the basis for effective action to improve blood transfusion services across the province.

He said blood donation data has been provided to WHO’s Global Database on Blood Safety. He said earlier, blood data had been collected from national and provincial level in 2005 under same objective. He said result of data showed that 40% unsafe blood supplied throughout the Pakistan.

He said number of whole donations collected by all types of donation are 14, 65,983 out of which 118,663 collected from voluntary non-remunerated donation sources, 1320,062 from family or replacement donation and 27,258 from paid donation. He said this details are still of Dec 2014 and not for running year. He said: “We expect more improvement regarding safe blood this year.” This data has been sent to WHO Islamabad.

He informed that number and types of blood banks or blood centres covered for this report are; stand-alone blood centres 41, hospitals blood banks (public) 41, hospital blood banks (private) 72, transfusion centres (thalassemia) with total 154.

Dr Zahid said data had been obtained through questionnaire generated by WHO for all the provinces. He said collection of this data was a very tough task and we wrote to all registered 152 blood banks and compiled the data after receiving the replies from them. He said our monitoring team also helped us in this process of collecting this data.
