20 killed, 50 injured in Parachinar blast

PARACHINAR: Twenty people were killed and 50 others injured in a blast at a cloth market in Kurram Agency’s Parachinar area on Sunday.

The blast occurred when people were busy purchasing clothes amid cold weather. The resuce staff and law enforcers rushed to the scene and shifted the dead and injured to District Headquarters Hospital Parachinar for medico-legal formalities and treatment. The condition of some injured was stated to be critical. A Bomb Disposal Squad official told media that it was a timed device bomb.

Security forces cordoned off the area and took the situation in control. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack till filing this report.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali, and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan have condemned the incident and expressed concern over the killing and wounding of the innocent people. Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also condemned the incident.

Kurram Agency is one of the most sensitive tribal areas near Afghanistan border. It is adjacent to North Waziristan where Operation Zarb-i-Azb is in progress against the Tehreek-i-Taliban and other insurgent groups.
