21 killed, over 50 injured in Mardan blast

MARDAN: Twenty-one people were killed and over 50 wounded in a suicide bomb blast at the National Database Registration Authority’s (NADRA) office in Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday.

According to police, a security guard posted at the office stopped the man riding a bike at the gate, after which he detonated the explosive material. Rescue and law enforcers rushed to the scene and shifted the bodies and injured to the Mardan Medical Complex and the Mardan District Hospital. Authorities declared emergency at all medical facilities in the city. The condition of 10 injured was stated to be critical.

The blast created panic in the areas as injured raised hue and cry. Security personnel cordoned off the location after the explosion. An official of Mardan police has declared the blast as a suicide attack. The Bomb Disposal Squad said about eight to 10 kg explosive material was used in the blast that damaged doors and windows of the office.
