KARACHI: Inspector General (IG) Sindh Ghulam Haidr Jamali was presented a report about Karachi operation on Wednesday which said 238 police officers and constables sacrificed their life during last 23 months to ensure safety of life and prosperity of citizens.
According to details of report during Karachi operation against terrorism and crime from 5th September to 4th August 2015, 238 officers including 2 SPs, 5 DSPs, 6 inspectors, 28 sub-inspectors, 29 assistant sub-inspectors, 41 head constables and 127 constables sacrificed their life.
However, police arrested 61,851 suspects during snap checking, patrolling, big cache of weapons, 15590 in numbers, was also seized from their possession.
The report says that 1802 suspects were arrested in murder cases, 879 in terrorism cases, 119 in kidnapping for ransom and 528 in extortion cases. 2775 in robbery, 12053 on weapon act, 9669 on drug cases, 9916 absconders 719 proclaimed offenders were also arrested suspects while 23391 other criminals were also detained during this operation.
1571 hand grenades, 1422-Kg explosive material, 37 suicide jackets, 9 IEDs, 18 LMGs, 397 SMGs, 14614 pistols, 311 rifles and 250 repeaters were recovered from their possession.
In 3569 police encounters, 331 terrorists, 38 kidnapers, 10 extortionists and 806 dacoits were killed and 1834 criminal gangs were busted from different parts of city.
IG Sindh paid tribute to police martyrs and said sacrifices of police against crimes are unprecedented and unforgettable. He directed to further accelerate the ongoing operation under the national action plan.
