48 profiteers fined for overcharging

KARACHI: In a crackdown on profiteers, 48 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 98,000 fine for selling commodities above official rates.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Tuesday said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

In the crackdown, 23 milkmen, 12 shopkeepers of general commodities, three chicken sellers, eight vegetable sellers and two fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices.
