Islamabad: Top seed Aqeel Khan, 4th seed Heera Ashiq, 3rd Seed Shahzad Khan and 7the seed Ahmed Ch. moved into the semifinals of Men’s singles event in the 4th Syed Tajammul Abbas Memorial National Ranking Tennis Tournament 2014 here at PTF Tennis Complex, Islamabad.
7th seed Ahmed Ch. made the major upset when he eliminated 2nd seed Mohammad Abid in a well contested three set match. Ahmed won the 1st set at score 6-3 by displaying aggressive game from the start of the set.
In the second set Ahmed got two match points at score 5-4 but was unable to hold his game and the score went up to 6all in the second set which Abid won at 7-5 in the tie break and level the score one set all. In the final set Ahmed build up the winning lead 3-0 and keep on running Abid between the sidelines and took the set at 6-2 and the match.
He will face Shahzad Khan in the semifinal.
Aqeel Khan, Heera Ahsiq and Shahzad Khan won their quarterfinals in straight set without any resistance from their opponents.
In the boys under 18 event 8th seed Talha Zubair of Karachi made the major upset by beating top seed Syed Nofil Kaleem in a well contested two set match. Talha Zubair scored his win at score 6-2,7-6(6).
5th seed Arham Atiq also made a big upset by beating 2nd seed M. Mudasir in straight sets 6-3,6-4. M. Mudasir was not in good shape as he was suffering with fever from last night.
M. Muzamil and Hasnain Manzoor registered straight wins against their opponents. Talha Zubair will face M. Muzamil while Hasnain Manzoor will play against Arham Atiq tomorrow.
In the boys under category Ilham Khan, Mir Shahzaib, Saqib Umer and Yousaf Khan moved into the semifinals by beating their respective opponents.
In the men’s doubles event Aqeel Khan / Shahzad Khan will face Mohammad Abid / Usman Rafiq in the final. Aqeel and Shahzad beat Sanaullah / Heera Ashiq at score 6-3,6-4 while Abid / Usman defeated Wakeel Khan / Ejaz Khan at score 6-2,6-3.
