50pc relief for KMC employees in municipal utility bills

KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui has approved 50 percent relief in the payment of municipal utility service charges bill for the employees of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and defunct Karachi Development Authority (KDA).

All the employees of KMC would be eligible to avail the rebate whose service was permanent and who had completed at least 5 years of service. Former administrators of KMC would also get this relief. However, this relief would be for only residential property of the employee or his/her father, mother or spouse which has been constructed on the residential land of KMC/KDA (defunct) for which the concerned employee would have to submit its proof.

The Senior Director Municipal Utility Service Charges Fuzail Bukhari had in his recommendation referred to rebate as various utility service providers provided to their employees like K-Electric, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board, Sui Southern Gas Company, House Building Finance Company and others and said KMC employees had no such concession in the utility service charges bill, whereas, the Sindh Local Government Act 2013 allows such a relief/rebate to the employees of the concerned organization.

Frooqui, exercising the powers of council conferred on him, gave approval of this recommendation through a resolution and now the KMC employees were eligible to get 50 percent relief on their utility service charges bill.
