59% Pakistanis believe few people benefit when the government levies a new tax and generates revenue from it, Poll

Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 59% Pakistanis believe few people benefit when the government levies a new tax and generates revenue from it.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women, from across the four provinces was asked, “When the government levies a new tax and generates revenue from it, who in your opinion benefits from it?” Responding to this, 18% said the whole society, 59% said a few people and 19% said no one. 3% mentioned other options and 1% did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2548 men in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Apr 21, 2014 – Apr 28, 2014. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
