61 profiteers fined, 5 jailed

KARACHI: In a crackdown on profiteers, 61 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 107500 fine for selling commodities above government rates, while five others were jailed.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

In the crackdown, 26 milkmen, 15 shopkeepers of general commodities, six chicken sellers, eight vegetable sellers and six fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while five persons were sent to jail for continuous violation of official rates.
