65,000 beneficiary women of Benazir income Support Program in trouble

LARKANA: As many as 65,000 beneficiary women of Benazir income Support Program (BISP) badly suffer due to mismanagement and corruption at all 12 centres established in entire Larkana district for making payment to them.

Even eight counters opened here cannot cope up with the ever increasing rush of the poor destitute aged ladies which has multiplied their woes. These poverty stricken old females arrive from far flung areas on motorcycles and three-wheel rickshaws to get monetary benefits to support.

One each centre has also been established in Naundero, Dokri, Bakrani and Ratodero along with eight in Larkana town but the lack of knowledge to these women has also created a lot of problems due to which they also fall prey to outsider agents who loot them on the pretext of getting them money quickly on payment of commission amount.

The poor women start arriving at the new bus stand centre here at dawn and their rush keep on increasing with the hot weather as temperature also keep on rising with the passage of time during day time for which no arrangements have been made for them for cold drinking water and to save them from hot weather.

The private contractor Abid Arain, who belongs to Ghotki, has completely failed to provide basic necessities to these women despite payment of commission to private agents, as according to one beneficiary woman, Rs 1000 to 1500 are deducted on payment of Rs 4500 if any woman gets payment through these outsider agents which also include female agents.

Women cops posted at the centre also fail to curb this corruption and ensure full payment to these deserving women. These centres have failed to complete payment of Rs 4500 to 65,000 women in last 15 days which shows that corruption and mismanagement is ruling high at these counters. Rs 1500 are monthly paid and this time three months stipend has arrived for each of the women. The women have urged the authorities to help save them from trouble.
