Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 66% Pakistanis say by celebrating 1st May (Labour Day) workers are encouraged and respect for them increases.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women, from across the four provinces was asked, “Some people think that by celebrating 1st May the workers are encouraged and increases respect for them while others believe that they are not encouraged and it only wastes time as it is a holiday. In your opinion should there be a public holiday on 1st May or not?” Responding to this, 66% said yes and 22% said no. 12% did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2596 men in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during May 05, 2014 – May 12, 2014. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
