7000 fake employees fired from KMC: Secy

LARKANA: Fifty-six Taluka Officers (TOs) in Sindh were suspended for their failure to get the record checked. However, 22 out of them have been reinstated after they got their record verified, said Imran Atta Soomro, Secretary, Local Government, Housing & Town Planning.

“NAB, Anti-Corruption and our department are conducting probe individually against fake appointments. Salaries will be recovered from those appointed illegally, he said.

Soomro said that the government is planning to produce electricity from garbage collected in Karachi, Nawabshah and Larkana. He said that so far, 7000 bogus employees have been fired from Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), adding that in Larkana 275 fake employees have been found from BPS-1 to 5 along with 22 in Kandhkot and their record is being verified.

Secretary said that there are no surplus employees in the local government department. Soomro said that very soon biometric system will be introduced in the department and all employees will have to get themselves verified through this system, adding that employees of Karachi Water Board have already been verified through this system and now it is the turn of KMC employees and then it will be extended to other parts of Sindh.

Soomro said that bank accounts of employees are also being again verified. He said that Rs200000 were given to each union council in the past but in 2007, it was reduced to Rs100000 only due to shortage of staff but now employees have been increased; hence, Provincial Finance Commission should immediately be restored and then the financial issues will be resolved.

He said that municipal and town committees should also use their own resources to generate funds which are not being done at the moment. He said that through billboards, Karachi is earning more tax than other cities which should also be collected in other big towns.

He said that monthly rent of local government shops is very low, adding in Karachi, rent of one shop is Rs200 monthly which should now be increased as per prevailing situation. He said that he had recommended to Sindh government to give grant to Larkana Municipal Corporation so that their employees’ monthly salaries could be paid timely. Secretary further said that Hyderabad, Sehwan and Larkana Development Authorities have failed to deliver for which their officials will have to improve performance.
