78 profiteers fined in city

Karachi: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui informed here on Monday that divisional and district authorities conducted various crackdowns against profiteers in the metropolis in which 78 profiteers were fined Rs115,500 for overcharging.

The ongoing operation took place in Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Murad Memon, Model Coloney, Shah Faisal, Sadder, Aram Bhagh, Civil Lines, Garden, Harber, Jamshaid Coatter, Orangi Town, South, Central, West, East, Malir and Korangi District of the city.

He said overcharging of commodity rates by anybody will not be tolerated. He also warned that the operation will be continued till profiteers stop overcharging and serve public as per the government rate list.

The commissioner further said that to control the deliberate shortage of vegetables, administrative officers are being appointed at the night during the auction time in vegetable and fruit markets, However, the action had brought clear results in decreasing prices, which will be continued.
