79 shopkeepers fined for overcharging

KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 79 shopkeepers were challaned with Rs 900,800 fine for selling commodities above government rates. In statement on Wednesday, Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

He further said that action against profiteers were taken in Garden, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Orangi, Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi, Model Colony and Bin Qasim.

In the crackdown, 28 milkmen, 20 shopkeepers of general commodities, eight vegetable sellers, six fruit seller, 16 poultry sellers and one flour seller were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices.
