79 shopkeepers fined

KARACHI: In a crackdown on profiteers, 79 shopkeepers were charged with Rs. 109400 fine for selling commodities above government rates. Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Saddiqui said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till the commodities are sold on fixed rate.

The operation was launched in different areas of city which included Sadder, Civil Line, Garden, SITE, Baldia, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaqatabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Orangi, Bin Qasim, Ibrahim Haidri, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi, and Model Colony. Overall 28 milkman, 20 grocers, eight vegetable sellers, six fruit sellers, and 16 chicken sellers were fined for selling items at higher price.
