83 profiteers fined Rs214200

KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 83 shopkeepers were charged with Rs214200 fine for selling commodities on above rates than fixed by the city administration.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at rates fixed by the administration.

He further said that city administration has focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Civil Line, Saddar, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Murad Memon Goth, Shah Faisal, Model Colony, Bin Qasim and Korangi.

In the crackdown, 46 milkmen, 16 shopkeepers of general commodities, 18 chicken-sellers and three vegetable sellers have been fined on selling essential items on excessive prices. Five persons were sent to jail for continuous violation.
