KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 95 shopkeepers were charged with Rs122500 fine for selling commodities above fixed rates. Four profiteers were sent to jail for continuous violation of the commodity rates.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at rates fixed by the administration.
He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Civil Line, Saddar, Garden, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, New Karachi, Shah Faisal, Bin Qasim and Korangi.
In the crackdown, 57 milkmen, 12 shopkeepers of general commodities, 21 chicken sellers, one meat seller, one vegetable seller and three fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while four persons were sent to jail for continuous violation of commodity rates.
