Accused remanded to police in extortion case

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism court-I (ATC-I) on Tuesday remanded an accused, Shaharyar Ahmed, to police custody till 11 November 2014 in money extortion case.

Police produced the accused before the ATC- I judge under tight security. The investigation officer Inspector Mir Aslam Khan requested the court to allow the physical remand of the accused as the police wanted to map out his connections and his other accomplices in the crime. The court accepted the police request and remanded the accused to police custody till 11 November.

According to Prosecution, accused was involved in demanding extortion of Rs 500,000 from complainant Zeeshan Shahid and hurling threats of killing him in case of non-payment.

The case FIR 200/14 was registered under section 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) at Saudabad police station.
