KARACHI: NED Teachers Association (NETA) and NED Employees Association (NEDEA) on Thursday demanded of government to take stern action against the elements who had brought the university at the brink of bankruptcy and those officials who were illegally promoted without following the rules and regulations of the HEC.

The annual increment, insurance and other issues related to Staff Colony should be resolved as soon as possible, said NETA’s President Prof Dr Syed Usman Ali Shah, General Secretary Dr Mohammad Imran Aslam and NED Employees Association’s Senior Vice President Abdul Qadir Gabol.

Dr Usman said the action should be taken as per the report of Prof Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan Rajpoot about the financial mismanagement of the university during previous administration which was issued by Chancellor office few months back. He said they demanded of the VC on the occasion of university’s 23rd Senate meeting held at the campus on Wednesday.

Dr Aslam said it will be injustice with employees of NED University as they were informed by authorities that no any of employees will get an annual increment until the financial crises persist in the University.

He said they had been paying the fine charges for the mismanagement offence for which they were not responsible but the previous administration was the responsible for financial crisis and those who had been benefited illegally.

When contacted, VC Mohammad Afzal Haq said they had no enough funds to meet the demand of employees. He said they had brought positive reforms in the university in last few years. He said now the loans’ interest had reached zero level, and research work had been promoted in the university. He demanded of Sindh government to grant a onetime bailout to compensate the university to meet the demands of employees soon.
