KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Saqib Ahmed Soomro on Monday asked Sindh Bank to establish the biometric system in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) for attendance of employees so that salary to working employees could be paid through the Sindh Bank.
“This would enable KMC to save its resources by stopping payment of salary to the ghost employees,” he said in a meeting with the officers of Sindh Bank at the Civic Centre.
He asked the officers to establish the biometric system as soon as possible. He also directed the metropolitan commissioner and financial advisor to expedite proceedings in this regard and provide all the required facilities to the bank.
The Sindh Bank delegation said as an immediate arrangement the Sindh Bank would also setup its counter in the Civic Centre and the permanent branch would be established with the approval of the State Bank of Pakistan for which steps were being taken.
“The biometric system could only be established with the coordination of NADRA,” they said.
Meanwhile, in a meeting with the delegation of Karachi Development Authority Labour Union, administrator Karachi said KMC was following the policy of giving priority to disbursement of staff salary and then solving other problems.
He directed the finance department to arrange for payment of salaries on time. He also assured the KDA union delegation that no payment to contractors would be made prior to payment of employees’ salaries.
