Administrator proposes joint culture complex

KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui has said a joint Culture Complex of Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi and KMC should be established to help improve the city’s image where cultural, literary and social gatherings and events be held throughout the year at a large scale.

He expressed these views while speaking at the governing body meeting of Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi in the Arts Council. Advocating the organization of sub-arts councils on the district level, the administrator Karachi said it would benefit maximum number of citizens.

He said the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi had in a short period provided excellent environment for recreation and educational activities to citizens by promoting the various social, cultural and literary activities. However, with the spread of city and the increase in its population, Arts Council memberships should also be increased with the addition of supplementary arts council setup in every district of Karachi.

Offering all possible help and cooperation from KMC in this connection, he expressed the hope that KMC would soon be able to provide financial aid to the social welfare organization of Karachi.

The administrator Karachi gave the suggestion of working on and holding of programs and events jointly by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi and KMC in every nook and corner of the city.

Secretary of Arts Council Ahmed Shah while giving a briefing on this occasion said the present space of Arts Council was insufficient for over 6000 members. The Governor and Chief Minister Sindh had announced the handing over of Faizi Rahamin Art Gallery to the Arts Council. This project was pending since last 25 years and KMC and Arts Council could jointly run this project in a better manner.

He said the 16-day Youth Festival “Awaz-e-Karachi” is being held in the Arts Council with first prize of Rs 500000. This program would start on district level where different competitions would be held among the youth. He expressed his desire to arrange this program and other events like international Urdu conference with the cooperation of KMC. The administrator Karachi assured them all possible support.
