AIGP appreciates police action against airport attack

KARACHI: Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo on Monday said that he was satisfied with prompt response of police participating in the operation against terrorists at Karachi airport and he appreciated the police.

According to spokesperson of Karachi Police, 10 terrorists were killed by the law enforcement agencies. He said that AIGP Karachi was present on the spot along with the IGP Sindh. He said that IGP appreciated the quick way in which police responded to the scene and participated in the operation.

He said that DIGP East Munir Ahmad Shaikh, SSP East Pir Muhammad Shah and SSP Malir Rao Anwar reached within minutes to the scene. All possible counter terrorism techniques were quickly discussed, jobs assigned, back up called and operation began to eliminate criminals and minimize the damage in the attack.

He said that Police Elite Force, Special Security Unit (SSU) and district police entered the area using APCs and assisted in hunting down the criminals. A gunman assigned to SSP East Pir Mohammad Shah embraced martyrdom while trying to rescue a victim. He came down from APC and tried to pick up an injured man when a closed by terrorist blew him up resulting in the Shahadat of gunman. Two other police constables also got wounded but presently are out of danger.

He said that 19 persons, including eight ASF personnel, one Ranger, one police and several civilians were embraced martyrdom and 26 others got injured while all criminals were killed.
