KARACHI: Focussing on security measures for forthcoming holy month of Muharram 2014, a delegation comprising 15 clerics of Sunni school of thought met Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali in central police office here on Thursday and discussed overall situation of law and order in Karachi.
Additional Inspector General Police (AIGP) Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo, senior police officers, zonal DIGs and district SSPs were also present on the occasion.
IGP Sindh, after collaborating and discussing security measures with delegation, directed police officers in meeting to ensure extraordinary security measures by paying special heed to imambargahs, mosques, madaris and other points along with main Muharram procession while the role of committees at police station level should be made effective.
For immediate measures during Muharram, he further urged that all important contact numbers including those of DIGs, SHOs and central control room under CPO, should be provided to all clerics and organizers of mournig procession.
Jamali said that in context of promoting harmony among different religions and sects of society, meetings with all stakeholders should be scheduled in order to take them in confidence while ensuring extraordinary security measures at area level on Muharram occasion.
He addressed the delegation and said that for effective implementation of overall security measures during Muharram, dwellers as well as individually should collectively play their due roles to ensure cooperation and collaboration with police at area police station level, adding that Muharram 2014 security plan has direct links with life and property security of citizens. He said that peace committees should be constituted to ensure security during Muharram.
