KARACHI: A delegation of the United Nations (UN) Department for Safety and Security (DSS) called on Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Karachi, Ghulam Qadir Thebo, at Central Police Office here on Wednesday to seek security measures for upcoming anti-polio vacation campaign in the metropolis.
The anti-polio campaign will start from 1 to 3 September 2014. At the meeting, security measures and law & order situation prevalent in the city were discussed. The meeting was also attended by all zonal DIGs, SSPs and other police officers.
The UN delegation comprising members Amado Caro, Mannas Baivato and others. AIGP directed city police to ensure that health workers remained in contact with provincial health department zones for making the security effective at zonal level through police stations.
He further urged that additional force should be deployed with assigned responsibilities for the campaign and proper briefing should be delivered to them for security measures.
While analyzing the crime statistics of all zones, he said that police commandoes should be deployed in east and west zones for polio campaign security. He urged that snap checking and patrolling in the sensitive areas of the city must also be ensured.
