KARACHI: Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Karachi Shahid Hayat visited Government Boys Secondary School in Lyari on Wednesday and attended a ceremony.
A large number of people belonging to all walks of life attended the ceremony. Ceremony started with recitation from the Holy Quran followed by Naat. The students welcomed AIGP with folk dance performances.
Addressing student, AIGP thanked people of Lyari for organizing such a good event and letting others know via media that people of Lyari were very much there to show the real colourful Lyari and its culture despite of a negative impression attached to its name.
He said that it was his happiest day during last eight months when he was interacting with children and people of Lyari in such a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere.
He emphasized teacher that they must play a big role in the progress of Lyari by teaching their students as best as possible for them. He told the children that he belonged to a small, poor village and had attended local schools in childhood. When he can reach to this stage then why not they, he asked children.
Shahid announced to assist in organizing a football tournament in near future. He also promised that all the semi finalists and finalists would be taken into police department subject they meet the required of educational and age qualifications.
On the occasion, school admin and people from neighbourhood presented him with numerous Ajraks and garlands.
AIGP distributed gifts among children who had obtained higher grades in their studies. He also promised to arrange some benches, shows and uniforms for the same school children with the help of police and friends.
