’Al-Qaida men’ remanded to CTD

KARACHI: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday handed over 11 suspects belonging to banned outfit Al-Qaida to Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on seven-day physical remand.

The police’s department produced the suspects Qari Mohammad Moshin, Qari Mohammad Akram, Moshin Khan, Syed Mohammad Riaz, Anas Mohammad, Mohammad Arshad, Abdul Wakeel, Abdul Wahab, Mohammad Owais and others before the administrative judge of ATC, Justice Mohammad Farooq Shah amid tight security.

The Investigation Officer (IO) submitted that the accused were arrested after an encounter in Ittehad Town. IO requested the court to remand the accused in CTD’s custody as they are required for the interrogation. The court accepted the police’s request and remanded the accused to them in explosives material, attempting murder and encounter cases for the period of seven days.

According to CTD, the suspects belonged to Al-Qaida and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. The police’s department claimed that the suspects were planning to spread terror in the city. CTD have seized rickshaw with explosives substance, rocket launchers, rifles, detonator and bombs from suspect’s possession.
