All political parties unanimously resolve not to accept any Supra-Constitutional measure

Islamabad: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Siraj-ul-Haq has said that all political parties have unanimously resolved not to accept any supra-constitutional measure that could compromise supremacy of the Parliament and continuity of the democratic process.

He was talking to newsmen after a national conference organized by his party in Islamabad on Monday to discuss the prevailing political situation in the country.

It was attended by prominent leaders of different political parties including leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah.

He said all political parties have also expressed resolve to play their role if the two sides entrust responsibility to the parliament to provide necessary guarantees if an understanding is reached for solution of the crisis.

The JI Ameer urged the two sides to come to the negotiating table and said talks is the only way to resolve the problem.

He said the conference condemned violence and urged all to find a negotiated settlement of the issues involved.

Siraj-ul-Haq said the conference expressed concern over attack on Parliament and said this was the worst moment of our 68 year history.

He said attack on PTV, vandalization, ransacking and breaking of equipment of a national institution are against democratic values and traditions.

Recalling efforts made towards resolution of the crisis, JI Amir said the Government accepted five demands of PTI with the exception of resignation of the Prime Minister.

He said during his meeting with PTI leader Imran Khan along with PPP’s Qamar Zaman Kaira, they conveyed to him that findings of the judicial commission to investigate allegations of rigging would be considered as a judgment and binding for implementation.

He said Imran Khan was told that the Parliament can act as guarantor that in case allegations of rigging are proved then the Prime Minister and the Government would resign and there would be re-election.

He expressed the confidence that positive attitude would be adopted and talks would resume. He said there can be shortcomings in the present system but all political parties should world together to reform it.
