All stakeholders to eradicate polio: health minister

KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Monday said the government was committed to eradicate polio in Sindh and they would not take rest until every child under five years is administered polio vaccine timely.

This he said while talking to media men here in Sindh Assembly Building. He directed all stakeholders to gear up their efforts to eradicate polio virus and to make anti-polio drive a success. The Sindh government has empowered the Commissioner Karachi and the Deputy Commissioners to give polio teams incentives for their efficiency and bring them to task in case of negligence.

He said the department had constituted a Task Force under the Commissioner Karachi to get the objective of zero tolerance for polio and the quality of polio vaccinations will not be compromised.

Replying to a question, he said the Health Care Commission had also been established to provide better health care facilities to the people of Sindh and it had power to take action against public and private health care facilities providers in case of any negligence.

He said that the powers of Health Minister and Health Secretary had been delegated to the Commissioner Karachi to take timely action against those showing poor performance.
