Allegations against Rangers: SHC summons MQM leader Waseem Akhter

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday summoned Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Waseem Akhter in Rs 500 million defamation suit filed by Sindh Rangers for levelling serious allegations against them.

The paramilitary force, Rangers, filed a defamation suit of Rs 500 million against MQM leader Waseem Akhter in SHC in which it stated that Akhter had accused Rangers of snatching cattle hides on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha. Rangers termed Akhtar’s claim as baseless and false in the suit.

According to Rangers, Akhter in an interview aired on a private news channel on 29th September 2015 alleged that the paramilitary force had snatched hides of sacrificial animals and was involved in extra constitutional activities. They said that accusations against them were an attempt to malign the image of the institution. The SHC issued a notice to senior MQM leader to appear on 21st January 2016 and file comments.
