Alleged custodial killing: SHC issues notice to home secy others

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court issued notice to the home secretary, provincial police chief, SSP Malir and SHO Rana Haseeb asking them to submit their respective comments on a petition calling for fresh probe into killing of a man in police encounter.

A division bench, headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, also issued notice to the provincial law officer and prosecutor general Sindh to file comments till February 18.

The bench had taken up a petition filed by Azeema Khatoon, who approached the court seeking action against the police personnel for allegedly killing her son in fake encounter.

The woman petitioner alleged that the police personnel killed her son, Bashir Ali Siyal in a fake encounter on December 30. She added the eyewitnesses present at the spot had recounted the details of the incident to her, stating the police personnel picked up her son from another place and killed him in an encounter.

The petitioner said she had approached the judicial magistrate Malir, seeking investigation into the encounter but her plea was turned down. She requested the court to annul the verdict of judicial magistrate and order fresh investigation into the killing of her son.
