Amendment sought in Human Organs and Tissues Act

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MNA Kishwar Zehra on Tuesday suggested in the National Assembly that an amendment in the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act 2010 be made.

Zehra said that after the amendment in the Act, it would be possible to donate body parts of human who die in road accidents, to the need people for transplantation according to their will. She said: “In most of the world, people make the will for donating human parts after their death to those who need the same for survival and this welfare work is also needed in Pakistan.

She said in whole world, human organs and tissues are transplanted, but this practice in Pakistan is slow due to non-availability of organs and tissues. An amendment in the Act would help to save human lives in Pakistan, she said.
