Anti-polio drive begins in Karachi

KARACHI: Five- day anti-polio campaign on Monday launched in Karachi where 2.1 million children will be administered polio drops during campaign in the metropolis.

The Commissioner Karachi, Syed Asif Haider Shah, has launched the polio drive in the city. Commissioner Karachi will personally supervise the drive for which district polio control rooms have been set up at the offices of the deputy commissioners of all the six districts in the city.

The 6296 polio teams and 1459 area in charges have been deployed in all union councils of Karachi. About 5000 police personals have been for security of teams across the city.

During this drive in Sindh a total target population of 8.2 million children less than 5 years of age (approx. 2.1 million in Karachi) will be administrated polio drops. The polio teams will cover all 188 union councils of Karachi and 934 union councils in interior Sindh during drive started on 11th January and will continue till 15th January 2016.
