Aqeel eases into clay court tennis second round

Karachi: Pakistan’s tennis ace Aqeel Khan got off to a winning start in NBP Subh-Nau National Tennis Championship, which started on Tuesday at PTF Complex in Islamabad. Favorite Aqeel defeated his opponent Ikramullah in straight sets in first round match of the men’s singles event easily by 6-1, 6-2 score. Heera Ashiq thrashed Hasnain Manzoor recording a 6-3, 6-2 victory to enter into second round.

Other players who won their first round matches included Wakeel Khan, Arham Atiq, Ahmed Ch, Talha Zubair, Irfanullah, Sanaullah Khan, Imran Shaukat, Zain Nawab, M. Muzammil, Shehzad Khan, Usman Rafiq, Shahid Afridi and Faizan Khurram. Muhammad Abid from Lahore was awarded walkover as his opponent could not reach the match venue on time.

Talha Zubair of Karachi moved to next round of Boys Juniors U-18 singles after beating his opponent Raja Shafaqat by 6-2, 6-3 score. Mohammad Muzammil, Mohammad Mudassir, Arham Atiq and Hasnain Manzoor were among other who qualified for next round of this category.
