KARACHI: Arrival of animals in animal market on Sohrab Goth is on the rise as people are flocking to purchase sacrificial animals. Administrator Sohrab Goth Maweshi Mandi Rana Imran said so far over 0.138 million cows had reached and the number of goats/ sheep in Bakra Mandi, covering an area of around 200 acres, has crossed 20,000, while the number of camels is 450.
The administrator said the size of bakra mandi is thrice that of last year and we are expecting arrival of a large number of sacrificial animals as well as buyers and visitors in bakra mandi this year.
He said except the exhibition block, all the space in the bakra mandi is being provided for free as per the availability on first come first serve basis. He said that only charges the cattle merchants have to pay is Rs600 per goat and Rs1000 for cow/camel.
“Against this nominal fee they are being provided with a lot of free facilities including space with security arrangements, drinking water for cattle, free medical checkup and treatment, and lighting,” he said.
Imran said parking to non-commercial vehicles was also free to facilitate customers with extensive security arrangements with a security team handling the internal security of the Mandi and special teams of police and rangers patrolling the nearby areas.
