ASI among eight killed, 24 injured injured in Lahore blast

LAHORE: Eight people, including an ASI, were killed and 24 others injured in a powerful explosion outside Police Lines in Lahore on Tuesday.

A lady constable Shumaila and a child were also among those who injured in the blast. The dead ASI was identified as Waqar Ahmed. The site of the explosion is located near the headquarters of Pakistan Railways. The blast damaged several vehicle parked in the area. Four vehicles were gutted in the fire. Heavy smoke emitted from the blast. The bodies and injured were rushed to Mayo and Ganga Ram hospitals for medico-legal formalities and treatment. Emergency was declared in the hospitals across Lahore.

Firebrigade vehicles also reached the area and extingushed the fire. The blast was so powerful that also damaged windowpanes of nearby buildings. The police fired shots soon after the explosion.

Panic gripped the area. Heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies personnel rushed to the scene and took the area under control. Bomb Disposal Squad also rushed to the scene and conducted search operation. A large number of panicked parents, inluding women, rushed to the school as thought that the blast had happened in the school. A woman fell unconcious near the school, while several others were seen weeping and crying.

Four bodies could not be identified as they were completely damaged and gutted in the blast fire. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains told media persons that the blast was most likely carried out by a suicide bomber. Seven injured were admitted to Mayo Hospital and 13 to Ganga Ram Hospital and four to the Services Hospital in the city.
