KARACHI: Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women and it is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. This was stated by speakers in an awareness seminar held on Thursday at Dow Medical College. It is estimated that worldwide one million cases of breast cancer are diagnosed every year and it is accountable for 3rd of all cancer in female.
one out of nine Pakistani females is likely to suffer from breast cancer. The incidence of carcinoma of breast cancer stands 24.4 percent amongst Pakistani females. Lack of awareness results in the development of breast cancer amongst females. The seminar was organized by Dow University in collaboration with Surgical Unit – I aiming to raise awareness amongst the masses.
Speaker includes Vice Chancellor, DUHS, Prof Masood Hameed Khan, Prof Saeed Qureshi, Prof Naheed Sultan, Prof Adnan Aziz, Prof Rufina Soomro, Dr Amir Maqbool, Dr Farha Idrees.
Prof Masood Hameed Khan informed that cancer is a very dangerous disease. Entire family along with the patients is disturbed from it. Early detection and treatment are keys to defeating breast cancer at early stage.
He stressed the need to raise awareness to reduce the number of breast cancer patients from the country. He also asked the students and postgraduate of the university to start voluntary health education campaign to educate public in their neighbourhood.
Prof Saeed Qureshi said that there is need to provide specialized services in order to reduce the number of breast cancer patients. He appreciated the efforts of Prof Naheed Sultan for starting breast cancer clinic at CHK.
Prof Naheed Sultan informed that breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. Breast cancer management is a multidisciplinary. Lack of awareness develops breast cancer in women. Different facilities have been introduced in the breast clinic at CHK. He also requested Dow University to start fellowship program on breast cancer.
Later on, Dr Adnan Aziz, Prof Rufina Soomro, Dr Amir Maqbool Dr Farha Idrees spoke on the management of breast cancer.
