Ban demanded on public transport with faulty gas cylinders

Karachi: Sindh assembly members here Monday expressed grave concern on the use of faulty gas cylinders in public transport vehicles and asked to ban them to save precious lives.

MQM lawmaker Saifuddin Khalid on a point of order said 12 people were burnt alive and many other injured due to blast of gas cylinder in a Hyderabad-bound bus near Nooriabad on Superhighway last night. He said the transporters are involved in a criminal act as they use cheap CNG gas, but charge higher bus fare on the basis of diesel use. He said the government is not taking any action against this criminal act. He asked the use of poor quality gas cylinders in public transport buses be banned.

Many other members also spoke on the issue and showed concern on frequent gas cylinders in public transport vehicles and wastage of precious lives in them. They point out that old oxygen cylinders are used in public transport vehicles, which are ticking live bombs.

Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani observed that the government should ban the use of CNG gas in public transport vehicles altogether.
