KARACHI: Bird Hazard Control Committee meeting was held at PAF Base Masroor, Karachi. The participants included various government and civil administration representatives.
The aircrew and aircraft of PAF are valuable national assets. It is therefore imperative that a comprehensive awareness of the ever present menace of bird activity around airfields be given to the masses.
One bird hit to a military aircraft can not only cause loss of lives of highly trained professionals but can also cost the tax payer an enormous amount of money. The focus of the aforementioned meeting was on controlling all the elements which attract birds, most eminent being, garbage.
District administrations, Karachi municipal corporations and certain other attendees were enlightened on how garbage effects the day to day operations around PAF Bases.
It was reiterated that garbage and waste dumps must be demarcated and categorical efforts should be made to ensure timely disposal of these dumps. These remarks were expressed by the Base Commander, Air Commodore Ilyas Sultan, in the Bird Hazard Control Committee meeting. Furthermore, he praised all administrating agencies for well coordinated efforts in the previous year.
Later on, Administrator Karachi, Rauf Farooqui, addressed the participants of the meeting and said that for the sake of national security all the departments require well coordinated cooperation to secure the national assets, at all administration levels coupled with a whole hearted understanding of their respective responsibilities. He committed to call a combined conference of the all official departments to settle a system for the security of personnel and aerial assets.
