Bomb planted in oil tanker defused

KARACHI: Another attempt of terrorism in Karachi was foiled on Wednesday when a bomb planted at main oil tanker terminal in the Karachi port area of the city was defused. Police deployed at the oil tanker terminal conducted checking of all tankers at the terminal due to security concerns this morning and found the bomb inside a tanker.

After the report of presence of the bomb, police and rangers cordoned off the area. The tankers and other vehicles were removed from the scene.

The bomb disposal squad (BDS) rushed to the scene and defused the explosive material. The bomb was attached with a magnetic device.

The bomb contained one kilogram of explosives and ball bearings, and it was aimed at creating more fatalities, BDS official Mustafa said.

It may be noted that on Tuesday, two explosions took place in empty oil tankers in Keamari Oil Field while another blast also occurred in another oil tanker near Gulbai. Police said that magnetic device was used in the explosion.
